Nankang CR-S Semi Slick Tire
Description:
The Nankang CR-S is an Extreme Performance summer tire with treadwear 200, specially designed for riders who demand maximum performance from a racing tire. Don't be confused by treadwear 200, as the band is easy to warm up.
CR-S's asymmetric tread design is specifically designed to increase stiffness to provide extreme grip while providing direct steering response. The aramid reinforced sidewall provides precise and responsive handling and consistent performance. Nankang Motorsport has developed this tire over the past three years through extensive testing with the clear aim of taking this tire one step further than the already successful AR-1 tire. The CR-S is designed to be a faster tire than the AR-1, but also a more consistent tire. In addition, it is also designed to be even more user-friendly with better ride comfort, less noise and better wet conditions than the AR-1. It's a big challenge to make the car faster on the track while also making it better in general road use, yet Nankang Motorsport is finally ready to launch it in Europe in 2024.
Scrub the tires:
For most purposes, racing tires will benefit from an appropriate 'scrub' procedure. This offers the best combination of performance and longevity under racing conditions.
There are several problems that arise when using racing tires if they are not scrubbed before use. The most common is “Cold Graining,” where the layer of tread compound in contact with the track fails through shear with the layer below it. The result is a very visible wavy effect with low frequency and high amplitude. This is more common with new tires, especially when used in wet, damp or greasy conditions.
Nankang Motorsport recommends using a standard scrubbing procedure wherever possible (conditions and regulations permitting). This consists of subjecting the tires to a gentle heat cycle, warming them up gradually without causing the car to drift. Set the cold air pressure to enough psi/bar to handle the weight of the car. On the track, gradually increase speed for a minimum of three to four laps, with the first lap at 50%-60% of normal use, gradually increasing but not exceeding 85% capacity with a cool-down lap at the end of the session. This will result in greatly improved tire life and on-track performance for future sessions.
If possible, scrub in at least one new set of tires during free practice and set them aside for the race. This way you know they are balanced correctly and don't have slow punctures etc. Doing this early enough is important as the qualifying session could get wet or red flagged which could force the use of new tires in a race.
It should be noted that there will always be a slight performance peak from new tires, but this can only be taken advantage of if the car is balanced on its tires. A properly scrubbed set of tires will always provide more consistent performance throughout its life than a set that has been used hard from new.
Temperature:
Ideal working temperature: 70°C – 100°C Tread temperature
Make sure that the temperature distribution on the tread is not too wide. (max 15-20 degrees)
It is also important to use a good meter (skewer).
An infrared meter does not provide a realistic picture of the actual temperature of the tire.
Assembly:
Motorsport24.nl is Chip Performance's webshop. We can also assemble your ordered parts for you at a competitive hourly rate. Our workshop is equipped with the latest tools & professional staff, so that we can install everything quickly and efficiently.
Chip Performance has a new Dynorace 4WD HLS where we can measure up to 1500 hp engine power. On request we can do a before and after dynorun so that you can see that the installed parts are working as specified. Also for Chiptuning you have come to the right place.
Do you want us to do the assembly? Please indicate this in the order and we will contact you to schedule an appointment.
